To learn a little Greek

In recent years I have been absolutely thrilled with everything greek. It all started when I had the privilege of going to Greece to cover the Olympic Games that I have with the staff magazine. I spent a year in Greece before, during and after the game was one of the best years of my life. As soon as I was assigned to the project, I began to research everything I could think of Greece. I wanted to write that the nation and its culture, with at least a bit of knowledge and understanding of relationships.

One of the first step I took was to enroll in an introductory course in Greek at a local university. I knew I had about a year until I leave for Greece, so I wanted to start learning another language. I spent two evenings a week to learn the basics of modern Greek language. Although I had studied ancient Greek in college, there was a lot more to learn I could have imagined. I am so thankful that I began to learn Greek when I did. I can not imagine having moved to this country without the basic language skills I had acquired.

Another part of Greek culture that has always fascinated me is the history and mythology. I spent much time in the library before going to Greece to read a book I could find in the culture, history or Greek mythology. I wanted the best possible understanding of the people going to live in and work during the Olympics. And I love libraries, so I guess that was part of my motivation too.

If you're like me, part of a culture that must learn to appreciate is the food. I visited all the Greek restaurants I could find before going to Greece. I wanted to be familiar with the basic Greek dishes, so do not be at a loss when I'm sitting in restaurants in Greece. She even gave me an All Greeks cookbook and learned to make some dishes from my own.

I loved living in Greece and immerse myself in everything Greek since I liked the preparation of my move. I loved the Greek people, culture and, of course, food. Living in Greece and the Greek feeling was one of the most incredible experiences of my life. I encourage all who are fascinated by the Greeks to pursue their interests and learn about it.
