It does not matter if you are fixing the sink in your kitchen or bathroom, you can have an easy task, or it could be a real headache. Everything depends on the valves and pipes of the sink.

Most homeowners are able to turn off water valves under the sink with only a few laps. But if the valves are old or if they have never been out since installation, rotate them to get their break, and you have a leak on your hands.

You can prepare this by having someone stand by the water main to enable and disable the supply of water throughout the house, if you leave the valve under the sink.

Older pipes and valves may have several years worth of calcium deposits form in them. It has been awhile chalky substance, and when it hardens, it will make things hang together. You can usually loosen it with a few twists, but do not pull too hard. If you break a pipe, it will be closed or replaced. Once you have removed the valves, clean them carefully with sandpaper and then steel wool.

Here's the easy part, which may also be somewhat difficult. Wrap layers of tape plumbers swings and slippery surfaces, where the valves and pipes will be replaced. Be sure to thread the tape in the sense that the valve or hose is turned on. The idea is to tighten the belt when screwing the valve on the hose, do not loosen. Screw the valve and tighten the clamps loosely, just so they are tight.

Now turn the valve slowly, watching for leaks. If the job is done right, the son that fit well and the band seal and there should be no leakage.

You may need to try it if you have any leaks, but you get the hang of it. If you do not over tighten the valves, you should be able to undo the work easier. it again to ensure it is done correctly and you should not worry about it for many years.
