Campground cooking with a dutch oven

After a day of camping trips, fishing, hunting, etc., there is nothing better than returning to camp with a hot meal waiting for you? Well this is easily done with a Dutch oven. A Dutch oven is a cast iron pot with a large lid seconds as a skillet for breakfast or eggs and bacon, and can give your outdoor experience a wonderful meal at the end of the day.

The basic idea of cooking with a Dutch oven is slow, slow, slow! After your campfire in the morning for breakfast and coffee and you're ready to take the trail or stream, you bury your pot in the coals with a large meal before you will wait for you when you return! But we will return soon!

So let's start with the basics. First, you need to buy a real cast iron Dutch oven fire. &True fire Dutch oven is made of cast iron, large and heavy, with sloping sides and stand with three legs. pot firmly seals the circle around it to keep coal in the country. The coverage is excellent even when it is moved over the pan to cook eggs and bacon in the morning.

It is modern Dutch ovens are made of aluminum, although they certainly do not want the camp kitchen. They can easily overheat and tend to bend, and when you cook a meal for the day of delivery, the last thing we want is a pot full of coals and dirt.

So after you have purchased your new cast iron dutch oven, the first thing you need to do is give it a good washing with hot water and soap. This well will prepare it for seasoning. Many manufacturers of cast iron layer of wax or other hunters to preserve the appearance of kitchen utensils. After a good cleaning is ready for seasoning.

Seasoning is when you coat your new cast iron skillet with oil or grease and bake in the oven or campfire for several hours. In general, a couple of four hours is fine. The more the better. This process may have smoked in the oven, so make sure you have your fan on. Basically, it allows oil or grease to prepare the metal for even cooking and add a special touch to start cooking in cast iron.

Once seasoned, you will not have to do it again until you wipe the oven too. Hot water and soap will do just fine for cleaning. Never use a Brillo pad or abrasive.

All Right, back to cooking. Dutch oven has been designed for cooking over direct heat o. They were very thick metal, distributes the heat evenly. So when it is overcast with a campfire coals or hook directly over the fire, it cooks very evenly. It works well on the fire, because they are usually much amount of heat loss due to flare-ups, burn downs, coals, etc.

One of the best uses of one of my favorites to use the Dutch oven is a burial of the oven your favorite stew on the bed and brushes and March, after the morning meal. Enter a daylong meal slow cook when you're out to enjoy a day outdoors. Later in the article listed some recipes for stews all day.
