Are you sick and tired of not knowing what to do or what to cook when you go camping? Do you or block the entire kitchen (with sink) or provide the absolute minimum and have to use a fork as a spatula or two spoons as tongs?
If all this sounds familiar then you're in the right place. During the past ten years I have perfected a list of seven things I use every time I prepare for my next camping trip.
These strategies are relevant if the caravan, camping, RV camping, scout or large group camping. You can easily be applied to any type of trip is really worthwhile.
So here:
First Plan meals - Okay common sense right? Well, if I do not see this as the first and most important point I would have yelled at! But seriously, if you do not plan meals in advance not only you do not know what you eat you have no idea what to pack in so far as the cooking gear is concerned. Do you need a spatula or tongs? Do you need a strainer or a frying pan?
2. Terms of speed - This follows directly from 1 Now that you know what you eat for the ride, now you can know exactly what tools, pots, pans, containers and various other kitchen equipment you need. And most importantly, what gear you need! My family and I are doing a lot of camping in a tent means that we take my wife's SUV, so we have a very limited amount of space that we must put all our things. If I only need a 2-quart saucepan and a small pot and guess what, the 9 other pots and 4 other frying pans stay home!
3. Map Condiments - Have you ever been camping and when you get there, you realize that you do not have ketchup, mustard or enjoyment of your hamburger pleasant, warm and juicy that you just cooked for yourself? Have you ever been camping and it took you 10 minutes to find the garlic powder because it found its way to the bottom of the box you keep all your spices in? There's a fine line between having too many spices and condiments and not having enough, but you have to walk that line. Even if you have a 40-foot class A Mega Super Duper camper, just so much space. Sit back and watch recipe you want, and then find what spices / herbs you can make and which ones to leave the house.
4. Over 10% - Get 10% more food than you should take. If your family usually eats four hamburgers, take 5 or 6. If you eat 6 pieces of corn on the cob to 8. I'm not sure what it is but around the world every time you go camping seems hungry all the time. It could be because people want to do more or it could be something in the air, I do not know.
5. KIS - Keep It Simple. Know that you'll be in the forest. Can you cook a rack of lamb with Dijon herb crusted with walnuts, Parisian potatoes, carrots and green beans wrapped in sweet potatoes ring car? Yes, it is technically possible. If you try it? Heck NO! Do not get me wrong, I'm not a square of 3 milk and cereal. I say to remember where to be and utensils especially primitive has at his disposal.
6. Function tests If you're planning on cooking over a campfire or use a new network, or cook in your RV, for the first time in his next trip ... Do not! Always, always, always do a test at home before you get there. Build a small fire in your backyard and figure, if you need the coal to support the fire and cook more evenly. Make sure you know how to connect that new grill and hot spots. Actually not much fun out in the woods somewhere and burn your dinner with a crisp or have sat on the bottom of the fire because of an equipment malfunction. So always test.
7. Try a new Treat - Remembering the strategy number 6, my family always tries a new pleasure when we go camping. If we need a new recipe for green bean casserole or a bad little snack after dinner, try something new each time. This does not mean something exotic that you are not sure the animals would even like. Just look around on the Internet have a ton of fire / Dutch oven recipes out there you can try.
Well, it's the fact that my list of 7 Need to Know Campsite Cooking Strategies. This is not a wish list or group of things I pulled out of nowhere. I use this list every time I travel to my family, friends and the Force. This list, if used properly will keep you in good stead with your missions. It is not short of food, you do not eat sweet food, will take home a ton of unused and possibly spoiled food, and above all, the dinner is not for camping.
