If you have a wheat allergy than you know cooking can become a nightmare. The good news is more people who are diagnosed are allergic to wheat, more food manufacturers are making more wheat substitutes, so that you can have food you like without adverse reactions.
One of the first things I noticed is that you really need to read labels to avoid wheat. Products that do not even have wheat in them. For example, for some reason, frozen French fries have wheat in them French.
The other thing you begin to understand is that almost all processed food has wheat. If you have a wheat allergy, you must now learn to cook whole foods and avoid processed foods completely. Not just a new way of eating, but for people with food allergies, the best option for you.
In recent years, food manufactures have noticed that a place in the market and develop tasty foods without wheat. After a bit of time and research is now able to eat almost anything you want, minus the corn.
Now you can find dozens of different types of flour. They have rice flour, oat flour and soy flour just to name a few. You can try to use them in your favorite recipes. The thing to remember is that although I have not found an alternative to flour are also traded wheat flour. This means that if your recipe calls for half cup of wheat flour can not use a half cup of soy flour, you have to do some tricks. As you learn the different flours, you will learn how to mix and get the same results. For example, if you need a thickener for sauces treated potato starch. Thicken a gray was like wheat flour, but you have to use more of it. Just keep adding until you get the results you want.
You can buy some already manufactures flour combinations that will work for certain items. Remove the pancake mix. There are many food manufactures that offer pancake mix with no wheat in them, all you do is add egg and milk. And the best part is they really taste like a pancake plain.
What I found is that if I use whole foods as possible, after a trial and error to understand how to make a recipe I want without wheat in it. If you're not as patient a cook, take a look at your local health food store or online, there are now thousands of pre-made mix that has everything you need in them except maybe milk and eggs.
